Mohammedan sporting found hard to win against Southern Samity in their Calcutta Premier division match. The first half was goalless. Both team had their chances but Mohammedan got some better chances in the opening half.
The black and white brigade managed to create two or three half chances and a clear chance towards the end of the 45th minutes of play. Southern also got chances when Basant Singh shot denied by Mohammedan goalkeeper Sayan. Neither teams able to make through passes, The side backs didn’t overlapped much.
Southern started attack in the second half. Mohammedan replied soon. Dipendu Dowary passed the ball to Usman. But his shot went wide. in the 65th minute Manvir Singh head went over the crossbar.
Finally fortune went Mohammedan’s way as managed to score in the 68th minute. Manvir delivered a delightful through ball to Usman. But he failed to take full control over his shot but somehow got a deflection which guided the ball towards the goal.
In the very next minute Southern Samity got a penalty as Usman tripped Ayan in the box, Basant Singh scored.
After that it was again the battle of midfield. Echezona able mark tightly Mohammedan striker Deduz . Torous also found himself blocked in opponent defense. The surprise came in the 93rd minute when Ritesh Chikara shot desperately towards goal. It was clearly not an effort to score a goal but Dipendu Biswas got his body into it and everyone kept watching the ball going back of the net.
It was not at all a very good show for kolkata football but black panthers some how managed to be in the second spot with fifteen points, just bellow to the defending champions East Bengal (eighteen points) . Mohan Bagan is in the third position with thirteen points.
